Kit by: Jake Madoff
Co-Founder | Agreeable & Co.

I’ve been doing some research on wearable tech lately. Specifically, I’ve been exploring the convergence of wearable tech with meditation and mindfulness. Both fields are growing in popularity and development. There are new articles and products that promise you peace of mind on pretty much a regular basis. (Perhaps it’s just me because of all my recent searches…Google probably thinks I’m a bit mad…but these topics are certainly on the rise.)

Throughout my searches, I came across a number of products that seemed to be talked about relatively frequently. These 7 products can be found below. I wanted to make a kit of the products that are seemingly leaders in this new field of tech and mindfulness training.

Some of these pieces of technology do offer a bit more than meditation training. Some offer relaxation training and breathing exercises, while others help to promote focused attention and healthy sleep patterns.

If you’re anything like me, you too are skeptical of these kind of products. I still kind of am. But after making this kit and watching these review videos — I’m pretty eager to try them out.

If you’ve experienced any of these products, comment below. I’d like to know your thoughts.

*Given the kind of kit this is, we didn’t do our usual rating schema.

7 Best Gadgets (Wearable Tech) That Help with Meditation, Relaxation & Focus

but, do they work?

The Brain Sensing Headband – Your Personal Meditation Assistant
By: Gaiam

A Conscious Alternative

With respect to the research I conducted, this product was one of the most well-reviewed of the lot. According to their site, “Muse is a brain sensing headband that helps you get the most out of your meditation practice by giving you real time feedback of what’s going on in your brain. Meditation has been scientifically shown to reduce symptoms associated with stress, depression and anxiety.” So it seems this product helps to produce a relaxed mind via promoting proper meditation. Nothing too funky here.

MindWave Mobile BrainWave – For Meditation, Focus & Attention Training
By: NeuroSky

A Conscious Alternative

NeuroSky is another pretty well-reviewed mindfulness product. It’s rather similar to the one above in the way it approaches meditation training. According to their page, you can get a number of specialty apps and games to play along with this device to improve the results and make the experience a bit more fun.

Mindfulness & Brain Activity Trainer – Provides Feedback for Growth
By: Spire

A Conscious Alternative

Spire is perhaps the second highest reviewed product of the lot. This device is more of a tracker trainer – that is, it requires the use of an IOS or Android app and tracks your activities in everyday life to give you meaningful feedback about how to be more mindful. According to their site, it’s backed by 7 years of research, “research from Stanford University’s Calming Technology Lab”.

Electric Head Massager – Helps to Relieve Pain & Produce Calmness
By: NORLANYA

A Conscious Alternative

Relatively speaking, this device isn’t super hi-tech with respect to analytics and activity feedback, but does include a number of cool features for stellar head massages. After watching the review video below, I’m rather convinced that it works — and that it would definitely help someone relax after a long day.

Shiatsu Pillow Massager with Heat – Massage Nodes Help Relax & Relieve Muscle Tightness
By: Zyllion

A Conscious Alternative

This is another popular massager that incorporates several kinds of massage technologies, including heat therapy. This one, though, isn’t limited to just your head, and can be placed on the back of your neck, around your thigh, or even put on your back against a chair. Its shape and functionality also make it portable and pretty easy to set up.

First Wearable for Relaxation, Energy & Mood Balance
By: Thync

A Conscious Alternative

This product is the new, popular kid on the block. If you couldn’t tell from the image, this product looks like something you’d see in a futuristic, sci-fi movie. This product does take some explanation. According to their site, “Thync works by stimulating the same nerves with safe, low-level electrical pulses.” They also say that the technology is broken down into “Energy” and “Calm” vibes. That former helps increase your energy levels, while the latter helps to slow you down and reduce stress. I’ll link to their site, so you can be the judge.

Sleep Pill – Sound Machine, Sleep Monitor, and Smart Alarm
By: Hello

A Conscious Alternative

This is another relatively new product — but doesn’t help to improve your brain states in your active life, but your sleeping one. In other words, this futuristic, snowball-looking device is like the Swiss-army knife of sleep. It offers you a myriad of tools to improve your sleep by making you more aware of what your body is doing while you sleep. The video below is very helpful in explaining what it does.
